Yoga Eiquette

These guidelines will enhance your yoga practice and help to create a safe and sacred yoga environment.

Arrive to class a few minutes early. This will allow time for you to settle into your space and ground yourself for your yoga practice. Yoga classes are structured with a beginning, a progression of asanas, and relaxation. Being late to class is distracting to other students, and may cause you to miss valuable information that will ensure your safety and comfort in class.

We feel hand towels can distract students from fully embracing the experience of true mediation. Being overly concerned with wiping sweat can cause mental distraction and take energy from the more important aspects of the practice. In the studio bring only your yoga mat, your practice towel, and your water bottle. Blocks and straps are permitted for those in need.

Please help to keep our studio clean. If you sweat more then the average person double up on the towels or buy a Breathe towel mat or skidless Yogitoes these products absorb a lot more then a regular towel and are worth the investment. We love to promote cleanliness (saucha) as part of our  yoga practice. Arrive clean and practice on an empty stomach. It is recommended that you do not eat at least three hours before practicing. If you have a special condition that prevents this, eat easily digested foods, i.e. fruit, a smootie or yogurt one hour before class.

Abandon the competitive mind-set. Yoga is absolutely non-competitive. It is not just a "work out". The aim of yoga is to calm the mind and heart, and accelerate our spiritual evolution. Keep your eyes on your own practice. Sharpen your listening skills and train your mind to focus. Be kind and loving to yourself by accepting where you are today. Rest when you need to. Remember: No experience or flexibility is required!

Faithfully follow all instructions given by the yoga teacher. Our yoga teachers are trained to guide you through various yoga postures to promote your health and well-being. Failure to follow instructions may lead to injury for yourself and others who might be following you in class. Mention any pre-existing injury or special condition to the teacher before class so that s/he can help you modify as needed.

Most Importantly love & honor your body, mind, soul, this is your practice and you know yourself best!
